BALCO Chimney collapses in Korba, Chhattisgarh
The chimney of the 1200 MW under-construction coal fired power plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh collapsed on Wednesday in the midst of heavy rain. The accident claimed the lives of 20 people and many people are still trapped inside. The death toll will exceed more. The power plant has been constructed by BALCO which is a part of the Vedanta group. The chimney was going to be constructed to a height of 275 meters but it collapsed after reaching the height of 100 meters. The rescue operation is still on. The unfortunate incident came as big blow to Chhattisgarh.
