Chelsea Back on the Top of the Premier League

The battle for the number one spot in the English Premier league has become more interesting now. Manchester United who earlier grabbed the top spot in the points tally by defeating Portsmouth by a huge margin of 5-0 could not hold it longer. Chelsea who defeated Arsenal with a 2-0 margin has now moved to the top spot again pushing Manchester United to the second place. Drogba was the artist of the 2-0 win of Chelsea who scored both the goals. Now the back to back defeats of Arsenal has made things worse for the Arsene Wenger side. After 25 games Chelsea is still leading the tally with 58 points ahead of Manchester United who has 56 points. Arsenal now has a uphill task. Arsenal is now behind Chelsea by nine points. The on going form of Rooney and Drogba will make things more difficult for Arsenal. So what do you think?

What if Henry and Maradona were in the same match?

Now the whole world has seen what Henry has done recently with his handball. I don’t need to remind you of Maradona also. But can you guess what if Henry and Maradona were in the same match playing against each other? Well such a match will see an amazing display of handball skills. Henry will handle the ball with his hand and give pass to Gallas. Gallas will head the ball but it will not reach the net because Maradona’s Hand of God will stop it in the middle. Now it’s turn for Maradona. When he gets a cross he would have converted it into goal by his Hand of God. But, sorry, Maradona. Henry will not let you do so. So the result will be a draw. Whenever there will be any corner kick the situation will be different in the penalty area. Other players will pay more attention to their hands than their feet. Probably these two players might have played as the goal keeper in the past. So whenever some critical situation comes, they do it with their hands not knowing themselves what they have done.

Henry’s Hand Ball ruins Irish Dreams-Who to blame?

France captain Thierry Henry’s hand ball which saw them to an overall lead of 2-1 over Ireland has turned the 2010 World Cup a Nightmare to the Irish people. It is really very unfortunate that FIFA could not handle such situation in this modern era. There was similar incident in the quarter final of 1986 World Cup where Maradona’s Hand of God came heavily upon the England team. Now the scene has become clear as Henry himself has admitted that he had twice handled the ball with his hand. French coach Trapatonni also says that he would rather go for the penalties to let the destiny to decide. Now in such critical situations, if a mistake is to decide the results then it is a real shame for game of football. Without doubt, there is no other big achievement for any country than to play in the World Cup Finals. But who is to blame for that? You can not blame Henry. Any body will do it at such pressure situations to see his own country through. A rematch is also not possible as Ireland is claiming for. But the referee in charge could have taken his time. But he may also commit mistakes. He is also human. Use of technology in football seems necessary now. Because, such situations are really very heart breaking.

The English Premier League has completed the initial stage. Every Premier League team has played at least 10 matches till now. The usual top teams are in their top spots except some disappointment from Liverpool. In the latest English Premier League results, Chelsea is leading the table proudly with 27 points from 11 matches where as defending champion Manchester United is on the second position with 25 points from equal number of matches. But things are not going right for Liverpool. They showed to have bounce back by defeating Manchester United 2-0 in the last appearance, but an unexpected defeat in the hands of Fulham with a 3-1 margin slipped their positions English Premier League results. Tottenham also showed disappointment as compared to their early results. Now the first three positions are grabbed by Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. Manchester City is on fourth position followed by Tottenham and Liverpool.

Spain’s winning run comes to end

Every tournament produces upsets. This year the FIFA Confederations Cup saw some major upsets. After World Champion Italy’s loss to Egypt, it was the turn of European Champion Spain. Spain lost to under dog United States by a margin of 0-2 in the semifinal of Confederations Cup. With this Spain’s undefeated run comes to an end. This type of upsets are not new. There have been many such upsets in the history of soccer. The defeat of France in the hands of Senegal in 2002 world cup is a similar example. This type of surprises makes a tournament more exciting and unpredictable. Now we will have to see what happens next. Now it is time for Brazil also to be careful onwards.

Champions League 2009-a dream journey for Barcelona FC

The Champions League 2009 has been won by veteran Spanish Club Barcelona FC. They have achieved this millstone by beating last year champion Manchester United. The most important thing is that three of the four teams that made it to the semi final were all English Teams. But ultimately it was Barcelona who had the last laugh. Barcelona defeated Man U by a 2-0 margin. The winning story was written by Samuel Eto and Messi. The early break was given by Eto. After that Messi sealed the victory with a fiery header to which Van der Saar had no answer. Lionel Messi becomes the highest goal scorer with nine goals. ManU Great Christiano Ronaldo was out played by Messi. He made a good attempt by a free kick but without any good results. This time the English boys could not defend the title. Messi describes this win as the greatest win in his career. I am the happiest person alive”, he says after the match. This may cost Ronaldo the FIFA footballer of the year award. What an achievement to such an amazing player!!! Messi is surely going to rule the soccer world in the times to come.

Manchester United out of FA Cup in the biggest setback

FA cup this year has seen many setbacks. As the tournament is progressing towards end, it has seen more and more surprising results. The biggest surprise came yesterday when Manchester United lost to Everton in penalty shootout. Nobody could have ever thought that Man U, the strongest contender will not reach the final itself. The match between Manchester and Everton remained goal less till extra time. So it had to be decided with the help of penalty shoot out. First Berbatov and then skipper Ferdinand failed to convert penalties into goal. Manchester however missed their key player Ronaldo.Rooney was not there too. Last week Liverpool was out of the tournament. Now Manchester has joined them.

Chelsea through to Semi Final-Liverpool clashes out

The 2nd Leg between Chelsea and Liverpool for the place in the semifinal of Champions League was unbelievable. Probably this was the most exciting match this season. Liverpool had earlier lost to Chelsea in the first leg by a margin of 1-3.So they had to win this match by any means and with a margin of at least three goals. But Chelsea did not allow Liverpool to go away with the match. They forced Liverpool to a 4-4 draw and thus confirmed Chelsea the spot for semifinal. The starting of the match however tells a different story. Liverpool looked very attacking in the start. At the 18th minute Fabio Aurellio of Liverpool gave them the lead of 1-0 with an unbelievable free kick. Soon after that Liverpool makes it 2-0 with a penalty by Xabi Alonso. At this stage Liverpool fans were thinking that they could make it happen. But their joy was only for a moment. Chelsea striker Didier Drogba started the rampage. The score was 2-1.Soon after Chelsea got a free kick. Alex converted the free kick to goal with a fiery shot. This was probably the fastest shot of the tournament. After that Lampard hits twice to make it 4-2 in favor of Chelsea. This ruined all the dreams of Liverpool. Towards the end of the match, Liverpool scores two more goals to level the score. But they were not able to make it to the semifinal. With this win the last year runners up keeps their hopes alive. Liverpool could not win the match. But both teams gave unlimited entertainment to the soccer lovers all over the world.

Nobody may have known Macheda before the crucial match of Manchester United against Aston Villa. In this match the goal scored by Macheda in the injury time gave Man U a stunning victory and turned Macheda a Hero. This was the debut match for Macheda. He scored a very spectacular decider for Man U and gave them the victory by a margin of 3-2.In that match Star Footballer Ronaldo also scored. But the goal by Macheda was something that drew the attention of everyone. The Italian striker who was never known to everyone got a famous exposure from this goal.Sir Alex Furgusson was earlier in confusion regarding the fielding of Macheda. But Macheda proved that his decision was absolutely right. Man U has seen many star players of the era. Now the question that comes in everyone’s mind is that is Macheda the latest talent discovery of Manchester United? Any way Macheda got the right break. This man has great talent and energy.
